Rodgers Set to Leave Celtic To Join Leicester

Brendan Rodgers has mutually agreed to leaving Celtic to join English Premiership side Leicester City following their sacking of manager Claude Puel after a 4-1 defeat at the hands of Crystal Palace.

Rodgers, who has previously managed Premier League leaders Liverpool, has enjoyed a successful reign at Celtic winning two league titles two Scottish Cup’s and three League Cup’ as well as competing well in European competitions.

It was always likely that Rodgers would make the move south at some point to take on the much bigger challenge of the English Premiership. He had previously been linked with Arsenal as a replacement for long serving manager Arsene Wenger however the move never happened.

Celtic are reportedly in talks with former boss Neil Lennon about taking over the role as manager on an interim basis following the Northern Irishman’s departure from Hibernian last month.

Lennon had enjoyed a successful playing career at Celtic as well as managing them to a historic 2-1 victory over Spanish giants Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League in 2012

It is unclear whether Lennon would eventually fill the role on a permanent basis or whether the Glasgow side will look for someone else to take the club forward given Lennon’s controversial departure from Hibernian.

Neil Lennon Leaves Hibs: Who Should Replace Him At Easter Road?

while the circumstances that lead to manager Neill Lennon’s departure from Hibernian Football Club have not been made public. The only thing that really matters is that he is gone and speculation has arisen as to who should replace him.

The name at the top of many Hibernian fans list is Kilmarnock‘s Steve Clarke. Clarke has lead Killie to the very heights of the table mounting a serious title challenge with both Celtic and Rangers. while Clarke would undoubtedly be a successful choice, it is unlikely that he would consider the role. Kilmarnock are challenging at the top of the table while Hibs sit low in eighth place. And with many English clubs keen on Clarke, it is unlikely that the Hibs job would appeal to him.

Another, more likely, candidate is former Scotland boss Gordon Strachan. Strachan is currently out of a job after leaving the role of Scotland manager last season. the former Celtic manager would bring a breadth of experience to the team and could be the man to lead Hibs back into the top six.

A third name mentioned is St Johnstone‘s Tommy Wright. The Northern Irishman has done some great things with the Perth side, consistently reaching the top six, lifting a Scottish Cup and producing European results. While it is unclear whether Wright would be interested in the job or not he would definitely be a solid appointment.

Another extremely unlikely candidate is Arsenal legend Thierry Henry, the Frenchman has had a torrid time in France with AS Monaco resulting in his dismissal from the role. Out of a job the footballing legend would certainly make headlines moving to Edinburgh.

Whoever takes over at the Edinburgh side will have a tough job building the squad to once again compete at the right end of the table once again.

Raith Rovers 3-0 Dunfermline: As Rovers Win Derby to Progress

The William Hill Scottish Cup returned this weekend for the fourth round which drew up a derby match between Championship side Dunfermline and League One’s Kirkcaldy based side Raith Rovers. It was a sell out crowd in Kirkcaldy as both sides looked to get a win over their rivals and progress to the next round.

It was an intense first half with both sides looking cautious to go behind and little clear cut chances to note.

the second half however, exploded into life when Dunfermline’s Lee Ashcroft was sent off for a last man foul on Rover’s Chris Duggan.

The host’s were later awarded a penalty when Duggan was again fouled, this time by substitute Mark Durnan. Striker Lewis Vaughan made no mistake from the spot to give Rovers the lead. Chris Duggan again provided the second as his cross met the head of Vaughan who celebrated a brace. Three minutes later and Vaughan rounded off the scoring with a hattrick when he finished well with nine minutes remaining.

it was a truly excellent performance from Raith Rovers which was, unfortunately, overshadowed by the disappointing actions of some of the fans who destroyed parts of their artificial pitch when they threw flares at the ground. Police are investigating the incident in the hopes of finding the culprit.

the win has seen Rovers drawn away from home to Premiership side Hibernian in the fifth round where ties will be played on the 9th and10th of February
